Where to take your question next

Most people arrive here mid-project, holding a set of drawings, a builder's quote or a half-finished material board. The details below are the fastest ways to reach the studio, and the hours when someone is actually at the drafting table rather than on site.

Studio address

60106 Leon Estate Apt. 173
Daviesland, KZN 9212

Visits are by arrangement, since the drawing boards and material samples take up most of the room.

Send measured drawings as PDF where possible. Hand sketches are fine too, as long as the dimensions are legible.

Studio hours

  • Monday to Thursday, 08:30 to 17:00
  • Friday, 08:30 to 14:00
  • Site visits booked ahead, usually early morning
  • Weekends closed, email checked Monday

What each channel is best for

Email suits drawing reviews, joinery details and material board questions, because you can attach the plan or the site photo and get a written answer back.

Phone works better for scheduling a studio visit, checking whether a brief fits the current workload, or talking through a constraint on site before anything is drawn.

Questions that come up before a drawing review

Most people arrive at the Resources page with the same handful of unknowns: what to send, what a review actually covers, and how a renovation brief turns into a set of drawings. The answers below are the ones I give most often by email.

What should I send for a drawing review?

Existing plans if you have them, a few photographs of each room, and a short note on what is not working. Hand sketches and estate agent floor plans are fine as a starting point. If the property is in Observatory, Woodstock, Sea Point or the Southern Suburbs, mention the erf and any heritage overlay, because that shapes what can be built.

Do you work from photographs alone?

For an early opinion, yes. For anything that will be built, no. Measured drawings come from a site visit, because ceiling heights, wall thicknesses and floor levels rarely match what the plans say. A 90 mm slope across a warehouse floor changes the whole joinery detail.

What is included in a typical drawing set?

Existing and proposed plans, at least one section through the critical junction, elevations of any joinery run, and an axonometric when the geometry is hard to read in two dimensions. Material boards sit alongside the drawings, with notes on timber selection, tile layouts and how full modules were kept at visible edges.

Can you work with my builder or joiner?

That is the usual arrangement. I detail the joinery so a cabinetmaker can price and build it without guessing, and I answer queries during construction. Trade clients and design studios often ask for the drawing set alone, which is also fine.

How do you keep a renovation inside its budget?

By deciding early where the money goes. Keeping the wet core in place, leaving services exposed where they suit the space, and spending on glazing, flooring or one well-made joinery wall usually holds the number better than spreading the same amount across every room.

Where do I go if my question is not here?

Send it through the support page, or write directly and I will answer by email. If you would rather talk it through, the contact page has the studio address and phone number for arranging a visit.

Reaching the studio, and what happens after you write

Drawing reviews and studio visits

Send a short note with the address, the rooms involved and any existing plans you already have. Scans, phone photos of a sketch and measured PDFs all work.
